AKD has strengthened the firm’s finance practice with the addition of Renate Punt-Huizer and her team. Renate and her team have a strong reputation in the Dutch maritime sector, assisting both international and national clients with cross-border ship financing transactions and the sale and lease of newly built ships. The team also counts a large number of financial institutions among their clients, guiding them through real estate and other financing transactions from A to Z, including notarial services. A notable member of the team joining AKD together with Renate is Romy Mattens. Romy is specialised in international ship financing and the sale and leasing of new vessels. She also has vast experience of real-estate financing, ranging from conventional debt and private equity to leasing and restructuring.

Renate's team will strengthen AKD's multidisciplinary Finance team comprising lawyers, civil-law notaries and tax advisers, as well as its Transport & Trade practice group. With the new hires, AKD strengthens its position in the Rotterdam region, particularly among industrial and maritime clients, and in the financial sector.

AKD's Finance section head Vincent Bettonville: “We are delighted that Renate and her team are joining AKD. Between their extensive cross-border and national experience, excellent market reputation and large sector-specific network, Renate, Romy and their team members seamlessly fit AKD's profile, adding depth and quality to the areas that we as a firm have prioritised. It will enhance our capacity to provide national and cross-border clients in the crucial transport and logistics sectors with a full range of legal support across all of our three key jurisdictions. In addition, it sends a clear signal to the market that AKD  is committed to - providing  a full range of support in all key legal areas to our clients based in the larger Rotterdam area, and that going forward our transaction practice will not be restricted to our Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg offices.”

Renate about her switch to AKD: “I am very much looking forward to this new chapter and to contributing to the development and ambitions of the Finance team. AKD is an excellent Benelux firm with a clear vision.”

Before joining AKD, Renate and her team worked for NautaDutilh.
