AKD today announced a strategic partnership with Legora that positions the firm at the forefront of AI-driven legal innovation, making AKD the only Benelux firm to join Legora’s global Lighthouse Partner programme.
The strategic partnership marks a major step in AKD’s ambition to help define how AI will transform legal practice and client service in the years ahead by developing new ways of delivering legal expertise.
As a Lighthouse Partner, AKD will work closely with Legora to develop new AI-driven client solutions, combining advanced technology with AKD’s legal expertise.
While many law firms are currently focused on using AI to improve internal efficiency, AKD’s collaboration with Legora goes significantly further. The partnership centres on building client-facing tools and intelligent legal workflows that can be embedded directly into clients’ own processes and decision-making.
Carlos Pita Cao, Managing Partner at AKD: “AI will fundamentally reshape how legal services are delivered. At AKD, we do not want to follow that transformation from the sidelines, we want to help shape it. This partnership with Legora is about much more than adopting new technology. It is about rethinking how legal expertise can be delivered, integrated and scaled in a way that improves how we work and deliver value to our clients.”
The Lighthouse designation is reserved for a limited number of leading international firms working in close collaboration with Legora on the future development of its platform and client applications. AKD is currently the only firm in the Benelux to hold this position.
Through the partnership, AKD will receive privileged access to Legora’s latest technology and features, while working side by side with Legora’s teams to co-develop new solutions for clients.
“This opens up an entirely new way of delivering our expertise to clients”, said Harm Kerstholt, Partner at AKD and lead of the Lighthouse initiative. “We are moving beyond traditional legal delivery models towards solutions that allow clients to access and apply legal intelligence more directly within their day-to-day operations. That creates opportunities for faster decision-making, greater scalability and more proactive legal support.”
The collaboration forms part of AKD’s broader innovation strategy and its long-term investment in AI-enabled legal services. Selected clients and multidisciplinary teams across the firm will play an active role in developing and testing new applications over the coming period.
Max Junestrand, CEO and co-founder of Legora: "AKD is exactly the kind of firm we built the Legora Portal for. They didn't come to us asking for a tool to tick a box. They came with a real ambition to rethink how they deliver expertise to clients. We're not just deploying technology, we're co-building something new together. When that works, it's good for AKD's clients, and it makes Legora sharper for every firm that comes after."
