About Barend Verkerk

Barend Verkerk is a lawyer and was appointed in the position of counsel at AKD. He specializes in corporate law and is additionally well-versed in matters pertaining to (domestic and international) contract and procedural law. Barend has extensive litigation experience and has represented clients in various proceedings before different courts. Most notably, Barend has appeared before the European Court of Justice and participated in various inquiry proceedings before the Enterprise Chamber of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal.

Barend’s clients include shareholders, directors and investment companies operating in the Netherlands and abroad. Additionally, Barend advises and represents private legal entities operating in the public domain and institutions operating in the semi-public sector.

Barend is a dedicated and reliable lawyer and takes great pride in delivering high quality service. Clients appreciate his availability and his ability to maintain a helicopter view of all relevant aspects of a case. Barend always has ideas about how to solve conflicts.

Aside from working at AKD, Barend is a lecturer in the Company law department at Leiden University. He has written publications on company law and has commented on case law in various legal periodicals. He co-authored the ‘Groene Serie Rechtspersonen’, which is an analysis of Dutch corporate law and he publishes model court documents for the corporate litigation practice in the online legal database ‘Modellen voor de Rechtspraktijk’.
