About Wouter Nieuwesteeg

Wouter joined AKD in 2019. He specialises in property and insolvency law, with particular expertise in security rights. He also takes an interest in areas such as retention of title, set-off, fraudulent preference (known as actio pauliana), debt restructuring under the WHOA scheme, and D&O liability in and outside of bankruptcy.

Wouter assists clients with complex disputes on these topics, combining his in-depth knowledge of the law with a keen eye for strategic litigation. Wouter also regularly assists AKD's bankruptcy trustees with the settlement of the major bankruptcies assigned to our firm.

In addition to his practice, Wouter has been a lecturer at Tilburg University for many years. He is working on a dissertation that focuses on a comparison between fiduciary security transfer and floating pledges on movable assets and receivables.His academic background enables him to approach legal issues from a broad, analytical and independent perspective. Time and again this has proven to be of benefit to his clients.

Wouter publishes articles on a wide range of topics from security rights to fraudulent preference and retention of title. He regularly teaches postgraduate courses both in and outside our firm. He is a fellow of the Dutch Association of Insolvency Lawyers and a member of the Corporate Litigation Association, the Dutch Restructuring Association and the Younger Academics Network of Insolvency Law.

Before joining AKD, Wouter worked as an investigative officer at the Hart van Brabant District Police Department for several years, which brought him unique insights into the practice of dispute resolution and investigation.

Wouter focuses on litigation in complex insolvency and property law cases. Combining in-depth professional knowledge, litigation experience and academic acumen, he is a passionate sounding board for clients and colleagues who want to achieve results both in and out of court.
