We are pleased to announce that our client Stichting Car Claim (together with two other foundations) and Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT, importer Pon and their official Dutch dealerships have reached a settlement over the EA189 diesel scandal. After nearly ten years of litigating and a year of intensive negotiations, we have finally achieved this great result for our client. Owners of more than 100,000 vehicles are expected to be compensated through this settlement.
Consumers and companies who bought a new or used Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT or Škoda car in the Netherlands with an EA189 diesel engine are offered compensation which, depending on the number of applications, can range from approximately €300 to €2,500. The amount of compensation depends on the model of car, when the car was purchased and whether it concerns a new or used car.
The settlement puts an end to legal proceedings of the three interest groups against Volkswagen et al., the Dutch importer and dealers for vehicles with an EA 189 engine in the Netherlands.
Guido van Woerkom (chairman of the Foundation): "Since the Foundation was founded, we have fought for a fair arrangement for Dutch car owners. It took a while but parties have now reached an appropriate solution."
AKD’s experts advised and assisted Car Claim in these proceedings against Volkswagen. Headed by Patrick Haas, AKD’s core team consists of Jeffrey Kleywegt, Andre Reznitchenko, Robert van Vugt, Gijs Wanders, Lisa Perridon and Antoinette van der Torren.
